Quinta Weddings

History Lovers – Quinta Quebrada in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

Nestled in the hills of central Mexico, in one of the country’s prettiest cities, you can take a romantic trip back in time at Quinta Quebrada. This vast enchanting home, filled with curiosities, is an exceptional wedding location for history lovers, a true gem offered Pamela H. Murdock Inc.

The center of San Miguel de Allende (a 1.5 hour drive from the Leon airport) has been listed as a UNESCO world heritage site thanks to its well preserved colonial era graceful plazas, baroque churches and grand mansions; Quinta Quebrada being the most famous of these opulent casas. This imposing and yet charming 16th century house, hidden behind tall stone walls, has 13,864 sq. ft. of living space on three floors and beautifully landscaped grounds covering almost one acre. The house has a capacity of 200 for the reception and sleeps 22.

“The wonderful staff of 10+ (more are hired for special events) are very used to having large parties and will ensure that everything is taken care of seamlessly,” says Pamela Murdock who’s stayed at the hacienda and knows the owner’s well.

“The house has been the site of many weddings even before ‘destination weddings’ became popular. The ceremony can either take place at a nearby church or at the house itself. If it’s at a church, mojigangas (giant dancing puppet figures) can be hired to lead the wedding procession back to the house.”

Pamela can work with you to arrange exactly what you’re looking for from cocktail receptions to seated dinners or lunches and from fireworks to mariachis and globos (sky lanterns), in addition to the regular wedding necessities like flowers, hair & makeup and photographers.

Sport fishing Bahamas

Deep Sea Fishing – Harbour Island, The Bahamas

According to our expert Pamela H. Murdock, one of the best places for deep sea fishing in the Caribbean is the Bahamas, in particular on Harbour Island.

“The summer is the best time for fishing,” advises Pamela. “The gorgeous island is a popular destination year round, however, in summer the sun worshipers have been mostly replaced by fishermen and divers. This is when sport fishing is fantastic with tuna, mahi-mahi and wahoo in abundance. This is also the start of the marlin tournaments which can be found throughout the island chain. Bone fishing is great year round and there are several excellent guides on the island.
“Serious and amateur fishermen love to go out with Jeff Fox of Ocean Fox. Not only is he a really nice guy but he has a sixth sense as to where the fish are. A full or half day spent with him guarantees great sport and fun.”

Spear Fishing

Spearfishing –  St. Peter, Barbados

For something a little different, our expert Nicole George at Altman Villa Rentals recommends heading to Barbados to try spearfishing, a fantastic sport that combines the thrill of catching fish and the extreme tranquillity of free diving.

“It is unique in that spearfishing is one of the oldest methods of catching fish,” explains Nicole. “It’s extremely ecological, providing virtually zero bycatch thus reducing the damage to fish populations and ensuring sustainable fishing practices.

“Enjoyed all over the world, spearfishing is an incredible way to escape from the modern day stresses of life (regardless of modern technology in equipment) and relax your mind to that of the ocean. Spearfishing can be a great experience with clear waters and tasty tropical fish which can be caught all over Barbados on the Caribbean (South & West) side and the Atlantic (East).

The following locations are typical dive spots known for fish, ease of access and usually allow diving throughout most conditions: Just off the beach by Port St Charles Marina in St Peter, and just off of Needhams Point in St Michael.”

Cuisinart Golf Club – Anguilla

The Idyllic Island of Anguilla features the heavenly Cuisinart Golf Club, an 18-Hole Greg Norman Signature Design Championship Golf Course and a favorite of our experts at Ricketts Luxury Properties. Completed in 2011, the course has quickly risen the ranks to become one of the top courses in the Caribbean.

Built on different levels and with different slopes, the route consists of 18 challenging holes. Arriving on the course, players are met with the amazing view of St. Maarten and the Caribbean Sea. The awe-inspiring vistas continue throughout the green surrounded by lush native vegetation. In addition to its sensational setting, Cuisinart prides itself on its sustainable design which aimed to preserve and enhance the island’s natural habitats. An essential factor of the planning process was the renewal of the Merrywing Salt Pond, a landmark of the island showcased on the course.

Canouan Golf Course

Canouan Golf Course

Canouan Golf Course – The Grenadines

According to our expert Sylvia Delvaille Jones of Villas and Apartments AbroadCanouan Island, one of the 32 islands in the chain of the Grenadines, boasts one of the most beautifully scenic golf courses in the world: The Grenadines Estate Golf Club.

“Nothing was compromised in order to create this magnificent 18-hole course,” says Sylvia. “The 13th hole is much talked about, often followed by a chuckle. I wonder why? It crowns the very top of a hill, sitting there all alone beckoning world class players to come on up by day. However, by the time you are finished playing, the butler has transformed this plateau into a venue for sipping cocktails and hors d’oeuvres to the spectacle of the most amazing sunset.

“This course, if measured by the amount of wealth in the pockets of those who have played it, would win hands down due to the multimillionaires and billionaires who happen to own villas there. One villa owner who had sold his company for 900 million pounds jokingly said he suddenly realized he was the poorest person owning a home there and among the friends he was playing with.

“What makes this so special is the breeze Canouan is known for. The island is ideally positioned to enjoy the full benefit of the northeast trade winds year round. This makes playing ‘a breeze’ in the perfect temperature. The setting is also exceptional for its 360-degree view of mountains, numerous tiny islands, long stretches of beaches, the sights and sounds of the sea, sailing boats bobbing and sleek mega yachts cruising the coastline.”

Terravista Golf Course – Trancoso, Brazil

One of the best golf courses in South America is the gorgeous Brazilian Terravista Golf Course, highly recommended by our experts at Matueté Villas. Situated in Trancoso, on Brazil’s Discovery Coast in southern Bahia, Terravista is considered the most exclusive tourist and real estate development in the country. The site is also of immense historic importance to Brazil as it is the location where Portuguese sailors first set eyes on the Brazilian coastline over 500 years ago.

The resort’s setting couldn’t be more beautiful, sitting atop imposing cliffs and facing the Atlantic Ocean. The Terravista complex includes hotels, vibrant restaurants and other commercial and service centers as well as its private airstrip. A highlight is definitely the Terravista Golf Course. Opened in 2004, it was designed by Dan Blankenship, a Gold Tee Golf International Architect from South Dakota State University. It occupies 70 hectares and includes planted grass, lakes and native vegetation, the preservation of which was a crucial element to the course’s design. The front nine holes are routed through the area’s natural rainforest and the back nine holes work their way towards the gorgeous coastline.
