Punta Mita: A pocket guide
The thing that strikes one the most about the beachfront village of Punta Mita, on Mexico’s Punta de Mita peninsula, is the absolutely lush, tropical and jungly flora and fauna and all that is wild and natural juxtaposed with an incredibly cultivated and civilized environment. It truly is the best of both worlds for those who want tropical splendor with lovely beaches, warm water, exposure to beautiful and exotic nature (wild birds, plant life, whales, dolphins, etc.) and all the luxuries privilege can bring. These include sophisticated and fine dining, manicured golf greens, some of the best spa treatments we have ever experienced along with multiple and friendly staff at your beck and call. If margaritas and tacos aren’t your thing, all the restaurants and villa chefs offer sophisticated menus with fine wines and meal selections to rival any big-city fine-dining experience, all locally sourced for the freshest experience. And of course there’s still the best guacamole you’ll ever have! The nearby Marieta Islands are a natural wonder and preserve for amazing scuba, snorkeling, and bird watching for the protected blue-footed boobies, not to mention supreme whale watching from December through March. But for those who prefer their sports on greens, there are the Bahia and the Pacifico Golf Courses, both designed by Jack Nicklaus. Guests lounging at the Residents Beach Club can watch players enjoying the novelty and challenge of Hole 3B, dubbed “the Tail of the Whale,” the world’s only natural island green. For tennis enthusiasts there are ten courts—five hard and five synthetic grass—as well as many private villa courts. Sail boarding, deep-sea fishing, boating of all kinds, surfing and great shopping in the resorts or more locally in the charming nearby town of Sayulita for local arts and crafts, jewelry and clothing; there’s something for everyone here! Or, just relax on the beach or poolside and be waited on hand and foot as you roll from bed to beach to yoga perhaps and a massage, to candlelight dinners and to bed again . . . ahhh. Punta Mita immersion is a state of mind and body for the senses and the soul.
