Seminyak: A pocket guide

Seminyak Beach in Bali.
Seminyak, Bali

Seminyak is Bali’s upscale beach resort, a glamorous addition to the backpacker’s paradise. Located on the southernmost point of Bali, Seminyak has an abundance of five-star hotels, spas, fine dining eateries, and opulent contemporary villas with private pools. Boutiques line the beachfronts of Seminyak and Petitenget, and it’s clear the area caters to a clientele of wealthy families, couples, and solo businessmen, but the culture of Bali reigns supreme.

Bali’s Luxury Destination

Spiritual ceremonies are often held at Pura Petitenget, part of a chain of sea temples stretching from Pura Luhur Ulu Watu north to Pura Tanah Lot in the west. Before visiting, it’s worth doing a bit of research to find out when the temple is celebrating its anniversary on the Balinese 210-day calendar, as it’s said to be truly spectacular. A holiday to Bali would not be complete without a beach visit, and a sweeping stretch of white sand stretches from Kuta Beach to Seminyak Beach. (Although the beaches are temptingly quiet, but beware the dangerous rip tides.) Shopping for hand-crafted wares, such as kaftans and beaded beach bags, and sampling the world-class cuisine in Seminyak are other favorite activities.
