Zermatt, Switzerland

With the backdrop of the majestic Matterhorn and surrounded by vibrant green meadows, Zermatt is a summer paradise, especially for trekking and mountain biking. Hop aboard the Gornergrat train to reach this 3,135 meter Swiss resort and you’ll be rewarded with some of the most breathtaking views of the whole Alps in addition to all of the charms of this traditional mountain town.

In summer it beckons eager skiers who come for its Matterhorn glacier. At 3,883 metres, it’s open year round and is the highest European summer skiing area. Verbier, Switzerland

Verbier might be best known for its well connected network of snow fields, however, with over 500 kilometres of hiking trails it is an excellent choice for summertime mountain vacations. It also attracts a great deal of mountain bikers thanks to its 826 kilometres of biking trails and thrilling bike park. Those craving more thrills can test out the area’s canyoning, hydro-speeding and paragliding or others seeking more leisurely pursuits can take their clubs out at Verbier’s two golf courses. Rock climbers can scale Mont-Fort to admire some of the most jaw-dropping views of the Swiss and French Alps including the peaks of Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. At the end of an active day, treat yourself to a seasonal specialities at one many excellent local restaurants in the resort.

Where to Stay in Verbier: Chalet Nyumba

Chamonix Valley

The sixteen by two kilometer valley has a fabulous array of mountains to climb including the world famous Mont Blanc peak.

Morzine, France

Part of the Portes Du Soleil mountain region, meaning “the door of the sun,” Morzine is an extremely popular (and sunny) summer holiday spot. Your days can be filled with hiking in around fresh mountain lakes, biking in the mountains or a range of different bike parks, hitting the waters via canoe, pedalo, kayak or stand-up paddle board at Lac Montriond or even doing some caving/pot-holing. There’s really something for everyone from fishing to horseback riding and from golf to geocaching. Megeve, France

Steeped in history, Megeve was built around a medieval church dating back to 1202, as such the town has a lovely traditional Haute-Savoie style. It is found in the Mont Blanc region of France which guarantees you stunning scenery, crystal lakes and lush green forests. Situated just over an hour from the Geneva airport, it is one of the most convenient summer vacation places in the Alps. With over 150 kilometres of marked hiking trails and 300 kilometres of sign-posted biking trails, making it a fantastic destination for active families.
