With a tremendous passion for travel and adventure, one day Jane Moore and her husband gave up their successful careers in L.A., packed up car and drove to Costa Rica. Thirteen years later she’s the entrepreneuring founder and president of Papagayo Luxury, a boutique resort of luxury condos and villas in the magical Papagayo Peninsula on the country’s Pacific coast. Jane shares her story and how she’s carved out the mission to assist luxury travelers to discover this amazing part of the world.

“I started Papagayo Luxury in 2012 with the objective of helping other owners rent their properties to visitors on a short-term basis. Since then, the company has grown steadily and we now have around 10 villas and condos at our disposal for our discerning guests. The fact that we live in Costa Rica full time, commuting once a month between the peninsula and the province’s capital of San Jose, has been invaluable and makes us rather an anomaly.

“As one of the original condo owners at Papagayo Peninsula, It’s been a tremendous pleasure to see Papagayo blossom like a tropical flower. Luckily, the developers designed it to preserve the peninsula’s uniqueness and maintain the wilderness corridor. It was these conservation efforts and the resulting pristine setting that attracted us to buy here.

“Acquiring a home lot and a condo on the peninsula was an alternative to constructing a small boutique hotel–one plan my husband Jason and I were considering when we moved to Costa Rica in 2004. It was an audacious move to relocation here just after our wedding, however, we are true adventurers and we wanted our children to grow up in a different culture and learn another language. I’d always been drawn to Latin America. When I was researching where we might go, Costa Rica stood out for many reasons: no military, good weather, friendly people, and beautiful scenery. It was kind of a no-brainer! Decision made, we packed up our car and headed south from L.A.

“I’d actually caught the travel bug when I was eight during a family holiday to Israel. Over the years, I’ve managed to visit over a substantial number of countries, everywhere from Iceland to Africa, Taiwan to Australia, Russia to China, Europe, the Caribbean and beyond.

“Starting a career in ad sales for magazines and companies such as Turner Broadcasting and National Geographic couldn’t placate my itch to travel. As such, Jason and I tried our best to satisfy our cravings on unique travel experiences as often as we could. We tracked and collared lions in Kenya as part of a scientific study of a specific breed of mane-less predators. We took a self-guided photographic safari in Namibia and Botswana. Our passion for hiking, scuba diving, rock climbing and other outdoor adventures brought Jason and I from one breathtaking location to the next. But the eventual urge to settle in Costa Rica finally led me to hand in my resignation to National Geographic and the rest is history.

The Newly Renovated Terrazas Condo

“Being an owner and a Costa Rica resident gives me an insider’s perspective when it comes to finding the right house or villa for each client. Papagayo Luxury is a family-oriented business, and many of our clients are multi-generation families. The villas are larger with five suites and there are several with dual masters, and expansive outdoor living spaces. The condos can easily accommodate a grandparent or two traveling with the family and are all one level. The properties all have pools and incredible views of the ocean and lush forest of the peninsula. Guests also have easy access to nearby activities that will please the whole family such as enjoying the vast beach with gentle waves, golfing at the Arnold Palmer signature course, trying out ziplining and nature adventures, or pampering yourself at the Four Seasons Spa.

“As a traveler, mother, wife and entrepreneur, I juggle a lot of responsibilities. Fortunately, my job is made easier, thanks to the work of our concierge Bari Lehrmann, associate member of Papagayo Luxury as well as a network of Peninsula professionals dedicated to making visitors’ stay as pleasurable and carefree as possible.”

Jane is offering our readers the special offer of a complimentary night’s stay at select homes from now until 14th December 2017 for bookings made booked by 20th February 2017. View the offer and conditions at this link.
