One of UltraVilla’s founders and experienced Paris and London luxury property rental expert, Madelyn Byrne Willems, reminds us not to miss a visit to the longest reigning monarch in the world’s official home in the capital this summer: Buckingham Palace.

“Although this famous London landmark and Queen Elizabeth II’s home opens every summer – a fact that London visitors and residents alike tend to forget – it’s very rare to be able walk through Buckingham Palace’s Grand Entrance, a privilege usually reserved for heads of state and royalty. But this year until 27 September you can as part of the special exhibition A Royal Welcome. The show takes a look at how the palace prepares for special events like state visits, royal engagement and garden parties, hence the ability to imagine yourself a VIP for the day.

“The pièce de résistance of the exhibition is the palace ballroom. You are able to see the magnificent space furnished and decorated for a state banquet and that includes an enormous 170-seat dining table fully bedecked with fine china, cutlery, and glittering candelabras. During the tour, you’ll also learn about all the work and preparation that goes into planning the palace’s lavish events.

“And definitely don’t miss the spectacular display of some of the gifts presented to the queen by various heads of state as well as the sword the Queen uses to grant knighthoods. The Summer Opening at Buckingham Palace is one of my absolute must-dos in London.”
