Los Cabos: A pocket guide

Situated at the tip of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico, where the waters of the Pacific Ocean meet the Sea of Cortez, Los Cabos is a vacation destination blessed with natural beauty, luxury accommodations and a host of offerings for discerning travellers. Originally known for world-class sport fishing and exciting nightlife, Cabo has grown up into a luxury escape catering to foodies, eco-travellers, celebrities and multi-generational families. Whether you prefer to golf on a championship course, go scuba diving in the pristine waters, take a private yacht charter along the coast, go whale watching, enjoy a sunset cruise to view the famed rock formation of “El Arco” at Land’s End, or simply relaxing on a sunny beach, Los Cabos offers something for every visitor. The striking contrast of desert landscapes, golden beaches and ocean is an unforgettable sight.

Home to two distinct cities, Los Cabos encompasses vibrant Cabo San Lucas and charming traditional San José del Cabo. Bustling Cabo San Lucas is anchored by beautiful Médano Beach, the area’s beach best for swimming. Along Médano, lively beachfront restaurants and resorts line the sand. Cabo’s marina is the departure point for luxurious yachts, sailing cruises, and sport fishing boats heading out to catch marlin, tuna, dorado and more. Pedregal is the premier private vacation home community in Cabo San Lucas, with spectacular estates overlooking either the Pacific coast or Cabo San Lucas Bay. San José del Cabo is the quieter, traditional counterpoint to the energy of Cabo San Lucas. In San José del Cabo, charming historic architecture, a traditional town square and the beautiful old church create a captivating atmosphere. The Thursday Night Art walk takes place during the months of November through June in San José del Cabo, offering a great way to explore and enjoy the many art galleries that keep their doors open late as music fills the evening streets.

Linking the two cities is the region known as the Corridor. This stretch of luxury developments, beautiful beaches, exceptional resorts and world-class golf courses offers a tranquil setting for a vacation getaway. Beyond San José del Cabo, the area of Puerto Los Cabos has established itself as one of the region’s most highly desired locations, with its own marina, golf courses and developments of breathtaking vacation homes, as well as fine resorts.

Ecotourism is at the heart of the vacation experience in Los Cabos. Whale watching during the months of December through April is spectacular, with migrating humpback and gray whales making their way along the coastline. The region offers spectacular diving opportunities, including at Cabo Pulmo, one of few living coral reefs in North America. Whether swimming with whale sharks or exploring the rugged desert outback, the opportunities for discovering the area’s abundant natural wonders are endless. Two excellent spots to enjoy snorkeling are Santa Maria Bay and Chileno Bay, both located along the Corridor.

A villa rental offers an ideal setting for a relaxing escape in Los Cabos, with privacy, luxury comfort, ocean views, optional in-villa services such as chefs and spa treatments.
