Imagine a three-kilometre beach of virgin sand, perfectly angled palms, the warm waters of the Bay of Bengal sweeping the shore, a few fishing boats twinkling at night and some village boys walking home in the dusk. Imagine staying in a teak bungalow nestled in the palm grove on the beach, with gleams of red lacquer and gold and whispers of silk. Imagine there is no-one else around, and no other hotels or resorts for miles. Imagine  choosing between spa treatments, walks in a village, visits to a local pagoda or a colourful Burmese market to buy snake oil, to have a tailor run up a longyi or sarong for you, or taste the market food. This is Ngapali and the Amara Ocean Resort; a perfect fusion of style, simplicity and hospitality.

Each of the 26 70 square-meter bungalows has a 40 square-meter terrace with stunning views of the sea and the Rakhine Mountains. A favorite meeting place is the large swimming pool, with its terrace and deck-chairs and poolside bar serving exotic drinks and snacks.  Be pampered in our spa facilities, with many of the treatments taking place outdoors. Dine in our restaurant on local specialties, Asian and Mediterranean cuisine, highlighting fresh fish and shellfish, as well as home-grown fruits and vegetables from our own organic garden. Learn some of these recipes in our chef‘s popular cooking courses.

Only a small part of the 1250-mile coastline of Myanmar has been made accessible to visitors. The Amara Ocean Resort is the only hotel located  on this beach, and is absolutely the finest location in Ngapali.

Motivated by enthusiasm for the country and solidarity with the Burmese people we have made a commitment to donate a fixed sum from each booking to the Amara Foundation e.V., which has been active in Myanmar since 2008 as a non-political, independent and entirely private relief organisation. The Amara Foundation is based in Munich, Germany, as a non-profit organisation.
