Step back in time at the Amara Mountain Resort. A two-day’s hike from Lake Inle, at an altitude of 1250 meters through the mist and spirits cling to the hills, you reach majestic Kalaw and this former British guest house. Originally built in 1909, it has been lovingly restored into an exclusive hotel with just ten rooms, each with its own open fireplace. In the lounges and the separate dining room, you will feel the colonial atmosphere that has been a part of this building for over a century.
This ambience carries over outside in the resort’s well-tended English gardens, enhanced with exotic flowers and ancient trees. An organic fruit and vegetable garden provides fresh produce for the kitchen which serves traditional Myanmar dishes as well as international Western favorites.
Guest can partake in golf at the nearby 9-hole golf course, trekking to the Kalaw National Park, excursions to the colourful market of Kalaw or to the villages of the Palaung, Danu and Pao people, where you can discover their customs and cultures. End the day relaxing in Amara’s sauna or gazing over Kalaw and the Shan Mountains from the terrace of the resort, absorbing this exceptional peace, privacy and tranquility.
Prompted by a commitment and love of the country and its people, we donate a fixed amount from each booking to the Amara Foundation e.V.. Founded in Munich, Germany in 2008, the Foundation is a non-profit, non-political, independent and entirely private relief organisation.
